CE Course Description

Burnout among psychologists and other helping professionals is a pervasive and ethically significant concern, with consequences for clinician well-being, client outcomes, and organizational functioning. This continuing education course provides a comprehensive examination of burnout from multiple perspectives, integrating individual, relational, organizational, cultural, and systemic dimensions. Aligned with the APA Ethical Principles of Psychologists and Code of Conduct (APA, 2017), the course emphasizes burnout prevention, resilience-building, and professional sustainability as ethical imperatives. Participants will engage with evidence-based strategies, including mindfulness, self-compassion, emotional regulation, reflective supervision, peer consultation, and the development of individualized sustainability plans. Special attention is given to cultural and intersectional factors that shape the experience of burnout and resilience, as well as the role of systemic inequities, organizational culture, and leadership in sustaining or undermining professional well-being. Future directions, including the role of technology, policy advocacy, and global collaboration, are also addressed. This course equips participants with the knowledge and tools to create ethically grounded, culturally responsive, and sustainable approaches to clinical practice. By the conclusion of the course, learners will be prepared to integrate personal and professional self-care, advocate for systemic reform, and ensure ethical sustainability across the lifespan of their careers.
