CE Course Description

This continuing education course provides psychologists with an in-depth exploration of Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias, focusing on assessment, intervention, cultural considerations, and ethical practice. Emphasizing current research and evidence-based practices, the course offers practical tools for clinicians in diverse settings. Topics include risk factors, diagnostic strategies, behavioral and psychological symptoms of dementia, caregiver support, and ethical decision-making. Psychologists will develop competencies in culturally responsive care and integrative treatment strategies to improve the quality of life for individuals living with dementia and their families.

  2. Identify key biological, genetic, and lifestyle-related risk factors and early warning signs of dementia.
  3. Apply validated screening and culturally responsive assessment tools in clinical practice.
  4. Evaluate evidence-based pharmacological and non-pharmacological treatments for dementia.
  5. Analyze common behavioral and psychological symptoms of dementia and tailor interventions appropriately.
  6. Examine cultural disparities in dementia care and apply communication strategies for diverse populations.
  7. Assess the psychological impact of caregiving and apply support interventions for caregivers.
  8. List ethical challenges in dementia care, including informed consent and end-of-life decision-making.
